=== USER MANUAL === Overview: You log into an account, not a character. One account holds up to 5 characters, and every character on it shares the account password. The account menu is where you create characters, delete them, and manage your login. Your characters also share a single stash -- see help stash. Creating An Account: At the login prompt, type new. You will be asked for: - Account name -- 2 to 20 letters. No digits, spaces, or punctuation. It must not already be taken by another account or by any character in the game; account names and character names share one namespace. - Password -- 6 to 64 characters, typed twice to confirm. It is stored encrypted and cannot be recovered by staff, only reset. You are not asked for an email address. Set one later with E if you want to. Logging In: Type your account name, then your password. Three wrong passwords in one session disconnects you. Wrong passwords do not lock the account by themselves. Staff can lock an account, and a locked account is told to contact an administrator once the correct password is given. The Account Menu: <1-5> ....................... Enter the game as that character. C) Create a new character .. Up to five per account. D) Delete a character ...... Permanent. A) Apply account credit .... Move retired-demon credit to a character. P) Change account password . Requires your current password. E) Set email address ....... Optional. X) Delete this account ..... Deletes every character on it. Q) Quit ................... Disconnect. Occupied slots show the character's level and race. A demon is marked (retired) and cannot be entered. Creating A Character: Choose C, then give a name and confirm it. Character names must be unique across the whole game, so a name already in use will be refused. You are not asked for a character password -- the character uses the account password. Then pick a side, (H)uman or (Z)ombie, and a sex. That is all; you are returned to the menu and can enter the game. Demon is not offered. Demons have been retired. Deleting A Character: Choose D, pick the character, and type yes at the confirmation. Anything else cancels. Deletion is permanent: the character is removed from your account and everything it was carrying or wearing is destroyed. Its locker goes with it. The account stash is not touched -- it belongs to the account, not the character. Retired Demons And Account Credit: Demon characters can no longer be played. The first time you visit the account menu after a demon is retired, its lifetime Mission Points and Specialty Points are credited to your account, once and once only. The menu then shows your available credit. Choose A to spend it. The credit is applied in full to a single character -- you cannot split it. The recipient must not be a demon and must not be logged in at the time. You are asked to type yes to confirm, and the transfer cannot be undone. After it is applied, the account credit is emptied. Changing Your Password: Choose P. You must enter your current password first, then the new one twice. The same 6 to 64 character rule applies. Email Address: Choose E. This is optional and is not verified -- whatever you type is stored as-is. Its only purpose is to give staff a way to reach you, for example if you lose your password. Leave the prompt blank to cancel. Deleting Your Account: Choose X. This deletes the account and every character on it, along with their equipment. You must type yes to confirm. There is no way to undo this and no way for staff to restore it. If you only want to remove one character, use D instead. Older Characters Without An Account: Characters made before accounts existed can still log in. Type the character's name at the account prompt and give that character's own password. You will then be asked to choose an account name, and an account is created for you using that same password, with the character linked to it. From then on, log in with the account name. Things Worth Knowing: - Names are global -- no two characters anywhere may share a name, and a character may not take a name already used by an account. - One body at a time -- logging the same character in twice takes over the body and disconnects the older session. - Shared storage -- all your characters draw on one account stash, which survives the deletion of any single character. - Lost passwords -- staff cannot read your password. They can only reset it, and only if they can confirm who you are. Related Helpfiles: STASH, LOCKER, DEMON, RULES === END MANUAL ===
