=== USER MANUAL ===
Usage: calculate
calculate <starsystem> <x> <y> <z>
Description:
Plot a hyperspace jump vector from the pilot seat. With no
arguments, the command lists every visible starsystem on your
charts as possible destinations. With a full target, it spends
2 seconds (1 second for staff) inputting coordinates, then
sets the ship's jump track for the next hyperspace command.
Calculate does not actually jump -- it just arms the drive.
Engage the jump with hyperspace after the course is set.
Input:
<starsystem> ....... Target starsystem name (or abbreviation)
shown by bare calculate.
<x> <y> <z> ........ Entry coordinates in the target system.
The final jump point is randomly jittered by
+/- 250 units for realism.
Requirements:
Pilot seat ......... Must be at the ship's controls.
Pilot access ....... Must own the ship or be a listed pilot.
Spacecraft ......... Non-spacecraft hulls (including stations)
cannot calculate jumps.
Hyperdrive ......... Ship must have hyperspeed > 0. Without a
hyperdrive: "This ship is not equipped with
a hyperdrive!"
Launched ........... Undocked from any pad.
Real space ......... Must not already be in hyperspace.
Manual control ..... Autopilot must be disengaged.
Jump Safety Checks:
After the 2-second input window, the ship's computer validates
the target. Any of these fail the jump:
- Unknown starsystem -- "You can't seem to find that
starsystem on your charts."
- No safe path (clan / race / flag restrictions) --
"Unable to chart safe path to starsystem."
- Short hyperdrive + cross-system -- short-range drives
(hyperspeed 1) cannot leave the current starsystem.
- Too close to stellar object -- jump point must be at
least 300 units away from every planet / star / station in
the target system.
Jump Distance:
Total time spent in hyperspace depends on destination:
Same system (short) ... Hyperdistance 1-6 (hyperspeed 1).
Same system (long) .... Hyperdistance 1-450.
Cross-system .......... Hyperdistance 600-1500.
Interruption:
The 2-second input can be broken: attacks, movement out of
the pilot seat, or other interrupts abort the calculation with
"You are interrupted and stop imputing coordinates." Nothing
is saved -- re-run calculate to retry.
Notes:
- Hidden starsystems (STAR_HIDDEN flag) do not appear in
the bare calculate list even though they may be jumpable
if you know the name.
- Random coordinate jitter means two consecutive jumps to
the same numeric coords will not land at exactly the same spot.
- Jumping too close to a stellar object is blocked at
calculation time, not at jump time, to prevent mid-jump
collisions.
