=== USER MANUAL === Usage: farm Description: Farming grows food on ground you have claimed. The loop is four steps: build a plot, plant a seed, tend it with water and fertilize, then harvest it for Specialty Points and produce. Crops grow in real time and keep growing while you are logged off. A crop does not care whether anyone is watching it; it cares only whether it was tended before its time came. Finding ground: Only tillable soil can be farmed. Standing on some, you will read: The soil here looks tillable. Camp Winchester's drill yard has been turned over to gardens and is the largest stretch of it. Building a plot: build on its own lists what you can raise, with farm plots under their own Agriculture heading. Plot sizes are farm-s (1x1), farm-m (2x2), farm-l (4x4) and farm-xl (6x6). A plot is a square laid out with your room as its northwest corner, running east and south from where you stand. build <plot> shows a preview map first: green cells will be tilled, yellow cells are not tillable and will be skipped, and red cells are blocked. Confirm with build yes. Plots do not have to fit whole. Ragged soil is expected -- a plot that only partly lands on tillable ground simply claims the cells that work, so long as at least a quarter of it does. farm-s is free; the larger plots cost base points, which you earn from structures that generate income. Growing: A planted crop is not guaranteed. When its time comes it either matures or withers: untended ......................... 50% to mature watered .......................... +25% fertilized ....................... +25% Tending alone tops out at 90%, however perfectly you do it. Only Luck -- your Luck attribute and the Lucky Break skill -- closes the last of that gap. A withered crop stays in the ground and must be cleared with harvest before the cell can be replanted. That is the cost of neglecting it. The farm command: farm reports your Farming skill, whether the ground you are standing on is tillable or already a plot, what is growing there, how long it has left, and whether it has been watered or fertilized.
