=== USER MANUAL ===
Usage: openhatch
openhatch hatch
openhatch <ship>
Description:
Pop the personnel hatch on a docked ship so people can board or
disembark. Works from inside the ship (at the entrance room)
and from outside (at the docking pad).
The hatch is the small airlock-style access door, distinct from
the cargo-bay baydoors that let other ships dock inside
yours. Boarding via boardship requires the hatch to be open.
Forms:
openhatch ........... Works when you're standing in the ship's
entrance room -- opens your own ship's hatch.
openhatch hatch ..... Same thing, explicit syntax.
openhatch <ship> .... From the docking pad, name the ship
whose hatch you want to open.
Requirements:
Ship present ....... Either you're in the ship's entrance
room, or the named ship is in your current
room.
Not a station ...... Stations use docking bays, not hatches:
"Try one of the docking bays!"
Ship is docked ..... "Please wait until the ship lands!"
Ship must have finished its landing sequence
and be in the SHIP_DOCKED state at its
last dock location.
Closing the Hatch:
The openhatch command itself only opens -- there's no explicit
closehatch player command. The hatch closes automatically in
two cases:
- launch -- the hatch slams shut just before lift-off.
- Long-idle ownerless ships are auto-returned to their
shipyard by the server, which also closes the hatch.
Echo (Open):
You open the hatch. (you)
<n> opens the hatch. (room)
The hatch on <ship> opens. (docking pad)
Echo (Auto-Close on Launch):
The hatch on <ship> closes. (docking pad)
The hatch slides shut. (ship entrance)
Errors:
<verb> what?
-- You're not near any ship and didn't name one.
I see no <X> here.
-- Name doesn't match a ship in the room.
Try one of the docking bays!
-- Target is a station; use the station's docking
bay mechanic instead.
Please wait until the ship lands!
-- Ship is not in SHIP_DOCKED state yet (still
landing).
Its already open.
-- Hatch is already open.
Notes:
- Opening the hatch does not open baydoors. The two
systems are separate: hatch = personnel entry, baydoors =
fighter / dropship docking.
- Opening the hatch lets anyone on the pad boardship
in. Close it before leaving the pad unattended.
- Crew already inside the ship can walk through the
entrance to disembark while the hatch is open. While it's
closed they're sealed in.
- The pilot does not need to be in the cockpit to open
the hatch -- just in the entrance room (or adjacent to the
ship outside).
