REROLL
Keywords: REROLL
=== USER MANUAL ===
Usage: reroll <item>
Description:
Strip every affix off a piece of equipment and roll fresh ones in their
place. The item is reworked at a cost in materials, what comes back is random,
and there is no way to keep the old affixes if the new ones turn out worse.
Requirements:
- Engineering skill of at least 30.
- 10 units of Scrap Metal. If you are short, the game names the
material and the amount it wants.
- You must be standing.
- No workbench and no particular room is needed. Onlookers are told you
work "at a workbench", but that is flavour -- the command works anywhere.
The item may be carried or worn. Rerolling something you are wearing
applies the new bonuses at once; you do not need to remove it first.
What Can Be Rerolled:
Weapons, armor, thrown weapons, grenades, boomerangs, light sources and
attachments -- the same set of things that can carry affixes at all. Anything
else tells you it can't take affixes and costs you nothing.
Your Skill Sets The Tier:
Engineering 30-39 ... rerolls at Uncommon: exactly one affix.
Engineering 40+ .... rerolls at Rare: one or two affixes.
The tier does more than set the count -- it also decides which affixes can
appear at all. An affix of a higher tier than the roll is never even
considered. Rare is as high as reroll ever goes, so Epic and Legendary affixes
are out of its reach no matter how high your Engineering climbs.
Read This Before Rerolling Anything Good:
- Reroll is destructive and asks for no confirmation. The old affixes are
gone the moment you press enter.
- Rerolling an Epic or Legendary item is nearly always a downgrade. Its
affixes are stripped and replaced with at most two of Rare tier or
lower, and the item is recoloured to the tier it was rerolled at.
- The command cannot fail and cannot destroy the item -- but it can
absolutely hand back something worse, and the materials are spent
either way.
- Any custom name on the item is lost. Rerolling resets the name and
keywords to the item's stock ones before the new affix words go on, so
a renamed or restrung item comes back as its plain self.
- Extra attachment slots that came from the old affixes go away with
them.
- If nothing in the affix pool happens to fit the item, you spend the
materials and get a plain, unaffixed item back. This is unusual, but it
is a real outcome -- it is likeliest on odd item types with few affixes
written for them.
Cost and Time:
Ten Scrap Metal, consumed before the roll is made. Two seconds of delay
afterwards. You gain Engineering proficiency for the work whatever the result,
so rerolling junk is a legitimate if slow way to train.
Naming:
The new name is built from the affix words: prefixes stack in front of the
item's own name, and a suffix joins on with of -- two suffixes read as
of X and Y. An item can never hold more than two prefixes and two suffixes,
so a reroll's one or two affixes always fit.
Related Commands:
salvage ..... Break an item down into crafting materials.
reinforce ... Strengthen an item. Cheaper at 3 units, but unlike reroll
it can fail outright and even damage what you are working on.
