SCANPLANET
Keywords: SCANPLANET, SCANP
=== USER MANUAL ===
Usage: scanplanet <name>
Description:
Pull a detailed readout on a nearby stellar object -- planet,
moon, station, star, or gate. Shows type, habitat, governing
clan, and any player-class lifeforms currently on the surface.
Gates additionally report their destination.
Scanplanet complements radar: radar shows everything in the
system at a glance; scanplanet drills down on a single object
within close range.
Readout:
Name ............... The stellar object's display name.
Type ............... Planet / Moon / Station / Gate /
Star / etc.
Habitat ............ Environment descriptor (Desert,
Volcanic, Installation, etc.) set by
sysedit.
Governed by ........ Clan that owns the object, or
"Nobody".
Lifeforms .......... Up to five names per row of visible
player characters (not NPCs) currently in
any of the object's linked zones. Invisible
characters are filtered out.
Gate Extras:
If the scanned object is a Gate, an extra block follows:
Gate Information:
Coordinates: X Y Z (gate's own position)
Dest Coords: X Y Z (arrival point on other side)
Connects To: <starsystem> (linked starsystem)
This is exactly the info you need before running gate <name>
to cross.
Range:
Targets outside 1,000 units return:
That <type> is too far away! You'll have to fly a little closer.
Close in before scanning, or use radar for coarse readings
at any range.
Requirements:
Target name ........ "What do you wish to scan?" if omitted.
Matching is partial -- "scanplanet mar"
finds Mars.
Cockpit ............ Must be in the pilot's chair.
Launched ........... Not docked.
Real space ......... Cannot scan from hyperspace.
In-system .......... Ship must be active in a starsystem.
Target exists ...... "There is no <name> here." if no
match in this system.
Notes:
- Lifeform detection respects your see-invis state. A
cloaked player won't appear in the list unless you can
normally see them.
- NPCs and mobs are explicitly filtered out. The list is
player-characters only, intended for figuring out who's on
the ground before you land.
- Multi-zone planets (like Earth) scan correctly --
lifeforms are pooled across every zone linked to the
stellar object.
- Scan does not consume energy and does not announce
itself; passive.
Strategic Notes:
- Pre-land recon: scan your destination to see who's
already on the surface before committing to a landing
sequence.
- Gate mapping: scanplanet a gate to confirm it
connects to the right starsystem before firing gate.
Saves a lot of misrouted jumps.
- Clan intel: the Governed by field tells you whose
territory you are nosing around in.
