SPRAY
Keywords: SPRAY
=== USER MANUAL ===
Usage: spray <direction>
Description:
Fire a burst of unaimed rounds in a direction, hitting targets in a
widening cone out to your weapon's full range. Spray is blind fire --
it does not require you to see or identify targets, and can strike hidden
or invisible enemies.
The cone fans out as distance increases: rooms directly ahead at
close range, spreading laterally at longer distances. Rounds stop
at blocked or unshootable exits.
Targeting:
Rounds are distributed randomly among all characters in the cone
of fire. Enemies are prioritized, but non-enemies have a 1-in-3
chance of being included in the target pool. The pool is padded with
empty slots (+25%, minimum 3 total), so many rounds will miss
entirely.
Ammo:
Spray fires 2x your weapon's rate of fire in rounds per burst,
capped by remaining ammo. Missed rounds also consume 1 ammo each
from the magazine. Spray can empty a weapon quickly.
Cooldown:
If every round misses, you receive a combat cooldown (AFF_NOSHOOT)
equal to your weapon's firing speed. If at least one round hits, the
normal combat cycle handles the delay instead.
Special Weapons:
Some weapons have scripted spray effects. For example, incinerators
ignite rooms when used with spray. These weapons suppress the normal
fire messages and use their own scripted output.
Restrictions:
- You must be wielding a ranged weapon with the spray flag.
- The weapon must be loaded (if it requires ammo).
- A direction is required -- you cannot spray without one.
- You cannot spray while in melee combat.
- You cannot fire into or out of peaceful rooms.
- Exits with barrier or noshoot flags block the spray path.
